Eric Baudais has marked up various common free licenses for the GDP.
All packages which have documents licensed under the FDL should include a plain text copy of the FDL in a file called COPYING-DOCS. All packages which have code licensed under the GPL should include a plain text copy of the GPL in a file called COPYING.
Further, all documents which are licensed under the FDL should either include a copy of the FDL as an appendix or else link to a copy of the FDL which is stored on the same machine as the document and which is reliable. Thus, documents which are located on the web or are shipped in packages which do not depend on the core GNOME packages should ship the appendix version of the FDL (fdl-appendix.sgml) with the document and include it as an entity to each FDL'd document.
Documents which are shipped in packages which depend on the core GNOME packages can refer to the stand-alone FDL document installed by gnome-core and reachable in Nautilus using "gnome-help:fdl". (Note you must have gnome-core from cvs HEAD for this document to be present.) For details on how to link to this stand-alone version of the FDL, see the appropriate legalnotice below.
Use the following legalnotices, depending on whether you link to the stand-alone version of the FDL or include the appendix version:
