GNOME 1.4 RPMs for Red Hat 6.2 and 7.0 (April 30)
Gregory Leblanc has
posted GNOME 1.4 RPMs for Red Hat 6.2 and 7.0 which he built. They
have not been thoroughly tested, although he has been using them
with no problems. Grab them
here.
IRIX GNOME packages (April 23)
David Kaelbling has posted some
GNOME packages for IRIX. They aren't quite GNOME 1.4, but are
getting there. They are available from /pub/GNOME/stable/irix
on ftp.gnome.org. (Please use
http://download.gnome.org/.)
Release notes and a FAQ can be found at

GNOME Packaging Project Launched (April 23)
Gregory Leblanc launches
the GNOME Packaging Project. The project will provide guidelines for
packaging binary and source releases of GNOME modules and will make
packages of GNOME modules, both for releases as well as built from CVS.
There are many benefits to this, including improved availability of
quality GNOME packages for end-users, availability of packages for
testing and thus a much more thoroughly tested GNOME, and improved
support for distributions so it is easier for them to ship GNOME which
works properly. For more details, see Greg's
original proposal and request for comments on the
gnome-hackers mailing list.
