Joining

Translating GNOME documentation and applications is a huge and ongoing project. Consider joining the GTP and helping to translate the GNOME applications and documentation to your native language. To join:

  1. Join the gnome-i18n mailing list

gnome-i18n@gnome.org is the mailing list used by GTP members. You can subscribe or unsubscribe at mail.gnome.org We also encourage all package maintainers to send a mail to this list at least two days before release of any GNOME package. This is very important to make sure that the translators have ample time to update their translations.

  2. Join or start a team

Teams for translating documentation to many languages already exist. Check the Teams section to see if a team exists for the language you are interested in translating to. If so, contact the appropriate team leader to find out how you can get started.

If no team exists for your language, consider starting a new team.

  3. Read the documentation

Especially Translation of the GNOME desktop environment should help you getting started.

If you have any further questions please contact your team coordinator or send the question to our main mailing list.

  4. Chat on #i18n

The GTP has an IRC channel at #i18n on irc.gnome.org. Join us on IRC to meet the other members and discuss translation and i18n issues.

  5. Join the gnome-doc mailing list.

You may want to join the gnome-doc mailing list. This is the main mailing list of the GDP. Instructions for joining and information about the GDP can be found on their web site.

You may also want to visit the GDP IRC channel, #docs at irc.gnome.org, sometimes to find out what is going on.
